Hello, fellow scholars! I'm Jeff Weng, assistant professor of sociology at National Taiwan University. I'm hoping to present a paper on Chinese-language schools in the US in the late 20th century, comparing schools run by immigrants from Taiwan (ROC) with schools run by immigrants from China (PRC). I'm interested in changes over time in the cultural and political content of the curricular materials (textbooks and other resources), and how teachers and students and parents interacted with them in and outside the classroom. I'm envisioning that I could form a panel focused on diaspora politics, on Cold War Asia, on 20th-century Asian nationalism, on heritage language education, or other related topics. Anyone interested in collaborating should email me at jeffweng@ntu.edu.tw. In your email, please briefly introduce yourself and write two or three sentences on your topic and how it connects. Many thanks!
