AAS Call for Proposals

Dear Asianists,

I am looking for additional paper presenters for my proposed panel, tentatively titled "The Buildup of Bureaucratic Systems in Interwar East Asia", for the AAS annual conference in Vancouver, Canada from March 12-15, 2026.

I am particularly interested in the recruitment and education of the elite bureaucrats, both in civil service and military, e.g. meritocratic promotion inside the ranks of revolutionary parties. Papers focusing on any area of the East Asian region or having a transnational perspective are welcome.
