Dear all,
I am seeking participants for a panel for AAS 2026. The panel focuses on how Others (i.e., foreigners) were/have been/are witnessed, recorded, and reproduced across Asia. While the direction of the panel may evolve based on participants' research interests, the tentative aim is to explore the different systems, labelings, and presentations that understand, define, and perform Others/Otherness, and how that possibly negotiates and shapes the knowledge about them today (or not).
I am a PhD student in ethnomusicology at the University of British Columbia. My research interest is in the intricacy of how the othering process in ethnicity plays out symbolically in the compositions of Thai classical music.
If you are interested or know someone who could be a good fit, please email me at shiho.ogr@gmail.com with your paper title and abstract (maximum 250 words).
Looking forward to a fruitful collaboration!
