We are searching for two papers that would address themes of transmission and transformation of literary texts. As organizer, my paper addresses questions raised by my 2010 article: "The Asian Origins of Cinderella: The Zhuang Storyteller of Guangxi." Dr. Bill Tsustui, Chancellor of Ottawa University, and well known for his study of Japanese popular culture in broad contexts, will Chair this panel. Topics could include indigeneity, secularization of Hindu and Buddhist sources, fairy tales as protest, early Asian heroines. I am recognizing the work of the Victor Mair who died June 2026.
