Hi everyone, my name is Ran Wang and I'm a third-year sociology PhD student at UPenn. We're trying to put together a panel on discursive violence on the Chinese Internet with a focus on the relationship between users and state censorship. We're looking for two panelists and one discussant to join us. If your research aligns with the themes below and you're interested in joining, please feel free to reach out to me at wangran@sas.upenn.edu.

Key themes: discursive violence/conflicts in digital space, state censorship, critical discourse analysis through feminist theory, (potentially) fandom and gender

Topic: How do grassroots digital communities negotiate with state infrastructure and ideology in their everyday online activities? What forms of discursive violence emerge from these negotiations?
