    Dear fellow researchers and scholars,

We are two graduate students based in Vancouver, Canada, currently organizing a panel for AAS 2026, and we are seeking two additional panellists as well as a discussant or chair to join us.

Our proposed panel explores how diaspora individuals, migrants, and overseas communities engage with memory, both inherited and constructed, as a way to negotiate identity, belonging, and place within the broader Pan-Asian context.

    Current paper topics include:

    • Mainland immigrants in Hong Kong and identity formation during moments of social tension and everyday life

    • Postwar Japanese diaspora communities and the negotiation of mass memory

If your research intersects with these themes, or you see potential connections, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out at wla160@sfu.ca.

We welcome early-career scholars, PhD students, and interdisciplinary perspectives.

    Warm regards,
    Alina Luo
