    Dear Colleagues,

We are seeking one discussant/chair for our panel on cultures of labor in [post-]socialist China through the intersecting lenses of energy infrastructure, affective networks, and media production. We have already assembled four panelists, examining how labor unfolds across new media forms such as rock music, hip-hop music, documentary, and TV series, particularly as they engage with ruinated ecologies, media technologies, and precarious laborers. Our analyses are grounded in a range of specific geographic locales across northern, central, eastern and southwestern China. These areas encompass both older industrial regions and emerging urban hubs-where China's industrial and post-industrial landscapes continue to shape the cultural and affective lives of those "laboring with ruins." We will also examine the entanglement of socialist legacies and post-socialist transformations, and the network of labor migration, as the mobility of "ruination" extends the spatiotemporal scale of labor.

We will be delighted to respond to any inquires and proposals for our panel. Kindly contact me at xiaoxup2@illinois.edu or Qiyan via qic031@ucsd.edu if you're interested!! Please also feel free to forward this message to anyone who might be interested in being our discussant.

    Sincerely,

Ann Xiaoxu Pei (UIUC, Comparative and World Literature)
