Hi everyone! Our panel has been completed, thank you!
————————————————————————————————
Hello everyone,
We are a group of graduate students based in the U.S. and Canada, currently organizing a panel proposal for the 2026 Association for Asian Studies (AAS) Annual Conference. We are looking for a discussant to join our panel.
Our proposed panel, tentatively titled "Fluid Ecologies: Memories, Diaspora, and Place-Making in Peripheral Asia," brings together four papers that explore how ecological landscapes-particularly forests, rivers, oceans, and plant life-mediate memory, affect, and marginality in East and Southeast Asian contexts. We examine how nonhuman environments function not merely as passive settings but as active agents in shaping diasporic histories, intimate geographies, and affective imaginaries, with a particular focus on Taiwan, China's borderlands, and maritime Asia.
If you are interested in joining us as a discussant or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to me at: jiatan@umass.edu
We would be delighted to hear from you!
