I am a History PhD candidate at the University of Virginia, seeking a Chair and Panelists for a proposed panel on gender, law, and governance in South Asia, broadly conceived. I welcome paper proposals that engage with themes such as law, policing, socio-legal reform, regulation, crime, sexuality, reproduction, medicine, or related issues under the colonial or postcolonial state. While my primary regional focus is South Asia, proposals from scholars working on comparable themes in other regional contexts are also welcome. My own paper examines colonial governmental responses to infanticide and abortion in nineteenth- and twentieth-century India.
Anyone interested in presenting on the panel may reach out in this thread or email me at rb7md@virginia.edu.
Best regards,
Rashmi Banerjee
