Seeking a Panel on Post-3.11 Japanese Cinema, Disaster, and Urban Infrastructure

    Posted 2 hours ago

    Dear colleagues,

I am a Research Student at the University of Tokyo and am looking to join a panel for the AAS 2027 Annual Conference.

My current research explores contemporary Japanese film and comparative literature, with a particular focus on environmental humanities, media infrastructures, disaster narratives, and anticipatory perception.

My proposed paper examines disaster warning infrastructures and urban landscapes in Japanese cinema after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake (3.11). Through close readings of post-3.11 films, I explore how early warning systems, surveillance technologies, and urban infrastructures reshape everyday perception, spatial experience, and the imagination of future catastrophe.

I would be delighted to join panels related to:

    • Contemporary Japanese literature or cinema
    • Media and visual culture
    • Environmental humanities
    • Disaster and risk
    • Infrastructure and technology
    • Comparative literature
    • East Asian cultural studies

If you are organizing a panel that might be a good fit, I would be very happy to discuss my proposal.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Best regards,

    Conger Yang
