    Hello

I am Carlo Tuason , a PhD candidate in American Studies and Ethnicity at USC. I'm currently looking to join a panel for AAS 2026 related to Sinophone Studies, art history/aesthetics/media studies, urban studies, global Asias, or infrastructure and cultural geography.

My paper examines the planning and development of Hong Kong's MTR alongside the solo exhibition by Tsing Jantzen Tse, similarly entitled Mass Transit Railway, which through gallery-wide installations of sculptural assemblage and video signifying the spatiality of the MTR, explores the embodied and collective experience of the rapid social and political change that has taken place in Hong Kong through the MTR. Tse's work, and this paper, heavily relies on sound and vibration as integral to the collective experience of not only the MTR, but everyday life. This paper argues for a multisensory infrastructural aesthetic, that emerges from the infrastructural and logistical governance of Hong Kong through various periods of rapid social and political change (through the MTR).

I'm open to joining panels across a variety of themes. Please reach out!
