    Hello everyone!

My name is Bianca Trifoi and I am Assistant Professor of Asia and the World at University of Alaska Anchorage.

I am looking to form a panel on children and childhood in Asia, broadly construed. My research focuses on the construction of childhood in 1950s-60s North Korea and how notions of motherhood, fatherhood, child public health, model children, education, etc. were conceptualized during the nation-building period. I am also looking at North Korean war orphans in Eastern Europe, how these war orphans were discussed in North Korean and Eastern European sources, and ideas of "socialist childhood" writ large in the socialist world of the 1950s-1960s. So our potential panel could cover: children/childhood/families,  the construction of discourse in East Asia/East Asian socialism, North Korea/Korea, Asia-Europe connections during the Cold War, etc. Lots of possible directions!

Please let me know if you are interested! Please contact me directly at btrifoi@gwu.edu

    Thank you,

    Bianca Trifoi
