Good evening,
I am looking for a panel to present my research on the issues of display of paintings in the late tenth - eleventh century Kaifeng, a capital of the Northern Song dynasty. Beginning second half of the tenth century, commercial spaces in Kaifeng such as wine-shops, restaurants, pharmacies, and tea-houses emerged as major sites for display of painting of different mediums (murals, screens, scrolls). I am interested in exploring how these new modes of displays fit into a broader context of emergence of a new urban paradigm.
