    My name is Wang Ziming, a Ph.D student in the Department of Religious Stuides at the University of Tokyo.  I am currently orgainizing a panel of Religion and Politics in Modern East Asia before 1945( tentative theme )
    My Current research focuses on religion-state relations in modern Japan before 1945, particularly the united movement of religious deminontions and the cooperation with the government.

    The panel aims to explore the intersections of religion, politics, colonialism, and state-building in modern East Asia. I am especially interested in papers dealing with topics such as:

    • Christianity and the modern state
    • Religion under the Japanese Empire
    • Colonial governance of Japan and religious institutions
    • Interreligious cooperation or conflict under the rule of Japan
    • Religious organizations and political authority in modern East Asia

    The deadline for AAS proposal submissions is August 5, 2026. More information about the Call for Proposals is available here:
