Hello everyone! We are a group of scholars based in the U.S. and Japan. We are currently organizing a panel for the AAS 2026. We are seeking a discussant to join us.
Our proposed panel, tentatively titled Displaced Subjects and Diasporic Narratives, explores various Asian diasporas across different geographical locations, shedding light on the often-overlooked connections among them. Examining the histories of the Japanese internees during WWII in the US and memories of Korean racial minorities in Japan, the panel will think about the global and local politics of racial hierarchy, highlighting the dislocated subjects' way to cope with systemic discrimination and work to establish new identities in different cultural contexts. Additionally, we will collectively reflect on how cultural production (textual, visual, or cinematic) in the diaspora has served as a vital practice for interrogating issues of racial, economic, and gender subjugation while helping to forge new identities.
If you can join us, please contact me at: eunahlee424@gmail.com
We look forward to hearing from you!
